I chose to make the bank in front of the house the epicentre of the garden and I fashioned here a rocky vortex from which the rest of the design emerged. Formed using a series of concentric circles with some segments of these circles filled with sturdy herbaceous planting, and other segments filled with bare dry stone banks. A labyrinth of granite pebble fills the rest of this space.
Wicklow granite, countless tons of it, was used in the formation of this garden and its solid nature combined with its light appearance gives real substance to the whole garden. This entire project, including the woodland, covers some 3 hectares and I hope to show more photos at some future date.
